Atlanta Thermoplastic Striping

Our client in Atlanta, Georgia, needed thermoplastic striping, or DOT striping as some call it. They found us after doing a Google search and gave us a call. A thermoplastic striping is a highly-reflective pavement marking that is resistant to cracking from freeze/thaw cycles.  For this service, we apply a primer first. The material must be in a molten state for proper bonding, and then glass beads a dropped immediately into the thermoplastic to provide reflectivity at night. We came out for the service, which our clients were pleased with because we didn’t hold up traffic for very long and did a great job with traffic control. The finished product was great according to our client! Check out the images below to see our work!

How Many Handicapped Spaces Do I need in a Parking Lot?

How Many Handicapped Spaces Do I Need In a Parking Lot

Handicapped spaces are required for each parking lot in the United States, but how do you know how many handicapped spaces you must have for your parking lot? The number of handicapped spaces are determined on the parking spaces in the parking lot. There must be at least one parking space that is van-accessible.

Here is an example of how many handicapped spaces are needed in a parking lot:

Total parking spaces of up to 25 requires at least one handicapped space. From 26-50 parking spaces, two handicapped spaces are required. From 51 – 75 parking spaces, three handicapped spaces are required.
Every 25 spaces that are added in a parking lot, another handicapped space should be added. If your parking lot has 500 – 1,000 parking spaces, then two percent of the spaces should be allowed for handicapped spaces. 1,000 or more parking spaces in a parking lot require 20 handicapped spaces, and the owner must add one for each additional 100 parking spaces.

The handicapped parking spaces must be located on the closest and shortest route from the parking lot to the entrance of the building entrance. If there is not one building entrance, then the handicapped spaces should be located closest to the pedestrian entrance. If your building has multiple entrances, the handicapped spaces should be equal to the entrances to the building. If the parking is in a structure, then the handicapped spaces should be located on one level.

This goes for all parking lots in the United States. Every business owner has to comply with these requirements for handicapped spaces on their parking lot. The handicapped spaces should have clear signs that show where the parking is available for handicapped riders. Anyone that parks in the handicapped spaces must possess a handicapped permit or sticker. Many states are issuing tickets up to $500 to people who park in the handicapped spaces without the proper identification. These parking spots are designated for handicapped individuals and should never be used by anyone but those who need it.

For the requirements on the handicapped parking spaces you can visit the ADA Standards for Accessible Designs and ANSI. The requirements are available for all parking lots and businesses. These handicapped spaces are required by law.

How Long Do Parking Lot Stripes Last?

Parking lot stripes can vary on how long they can last before fading. The factors that determine the life of parking life stripes are the weather and the traffic that is on the parking lot. Some parking lots can have their stripes re-done every few years, while other businesses have to have their parking lot stripes done every other year.

How Long Do Parking Lot Stripes LastA well maintained parking lot and with bold, clear stripes is essential for any business. Parking lot stripes not only make the lot look better, but also provide safety to pedestrians and drivers. The stripes will allow a driver to know that they are in an allotted space, while the pedestrian stripes will keep traffic safe while crossing the street.

How do you know when it is time to have your parking lot stripes done? When your stripes are faded and cannot be seen clearly. Parking lot stripes can be done quickly and only needs 24 hours to dry completely. Many contractors can schedule a time when your business is closed to complete the striping process. The contractor can also go over other options for your parking lot such as redesigning the spaces in the parking lot to get more parking at your business, or adding directional arrows to show traffic how to get to your business.

There is an added benefit to having parking lot stripes. As drivers, we do not really realize the importance of the parking lot stripes, until you go out to your car and see a car directly next to your car; there isn’t enough space to even open your door! The other car has come over the parking lot stripe and is not in your space. Striping works to prevent this issue by adding boundaries to all drivers to stay in their allotted space.

The best time to get your parking lot stripes redone is when they are beginning to fade. This can happen fairly quickly if you are in an area where you experience very hot weather and freezing temperatures. The stripes can crack and fade due to the weather, but the cost is quite affordable. Call your local contractor to get a bid on redoing all the stripes in your parking lot. Not only will you be happy, but your customers will be as well. There is nothing better to a customer’s first impression than a well maintained parking lot.

Sandy Springs Striping

Thermoplastic Striping

Thermoplastic striping not only looks great once it has been freshly done, but it is important to your safety, whether it be in a parking lot or on the road. Your safety is put at risk when you cannot see road striping, and could lead to potential car accidents. If there are not any visible stripes in a parking lot, parking will not be efficient and may not hold as many vehicles as it could with striping.
